Mastering cleanroom environments as HVAC engineer
In this feature, Stefan Ćaćić gives insights into his role as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) engineer at Exyte. He tells about his responsibilities and what he likes about his job working with some of the most technically demanding clients in the biopharma and life sciences industry.
He came across Exyte the first time a few years before joining while working for one of its subcontractors during the planning phase of a a semiconductor project. “I was intrigued about the work that Exyte does. So later I thought I might as well take my chances here,” Ćaćić shares about his way to join the leader in the design, engineering, and delivery of ultra-clean and sustainable facilities for high-tech industries.
He hasn’t regretted his decision. “In this company I feel that everybody gets treated with a lot of respect. Not just colleagues, but everyone, from senior managers to recently joined graduates. This is something I have not experienced everywhere,” Ćaćić shares.
Balancing functionality, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness
In his role as HVAC engineer, he designs, installs, and maintains complex heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for some of the most demanding clients in the industry. In the biopharma and life sciences sector, maintaining product integrity, process efficiency, and the well-being of personnel running the facilities relies on precise control of temperature, humidity, and air quality.
“The key element of all this is the cleanroom,” he emphasizes. Pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities work under highly regulated environments, where HVAC systems are specifically designed to meet strict hygienic requirements. "This is necessary to ensure the safety and integrity of pharmaceuticals, biologics, and medical devices,” Ćaćić explains. With close to a decade of experience, he has become an expert at balancing functionality, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness of the HVAC systems.
Involved from the design to the installation
What Ćaćić enjoys about his work is the variety of his tasks. “As HVAC engineer at Exyte, I’m part of the whole process which starts from concept and detail design, over the planning, calculations, selection of equipment, coordinating with subcontractors, and ends with supporting as field engineer on the construction site.” Being a leader in design and engineering, Exyte provides its employees with the opportunity to deepen their expertise and learn. “Exyte is a good place for me to learn. There are not a lot of companies in the world that offer such a deep dive into advanced technologies and complex systems across the whole project cycle.”
Recently, Exyte engineers undertook a project involving the on-site installation of Exyte’s modular cleanroom system, ExyCell®. “The strict timetable combined with the task of installing the system for the first time on-site was quite a challenge. But we worked together, found solutions for space constraints, and made the project a success, while still learning valuable lessons for the next projects," Ćaćić tells.
