Exyte has been at the forefront of deploying technologies which are shaping the future of data centers.
The change from traditional air-cooled servers to liquid cooling technologies supports higher efficiencies and denser computing, enabled by new age chips. Once again, Exyte remains ahead of the curve, and is already able to deliver advanced data center solutions such as immersion cooling. Immersion cooling is an ultra-efficient liquid cooling process where server racks are immersed in tanks of non-conductive fluid leading to substantial advantages in computing performance, total cost of ownership and sustainability. After thoroughly analyzing industry requirements and clients' needs, Exyte is well prepared to engineer and build the data center of the future.

Driver of Digitization
With ever increasing chip performance and computing power, liquid cooling is a key driver enabling this exponential growth of digitization. Manfred Engelhard, Director of Technology at Exyte, has been with the company for more than 30 years. He is convinced that traditional air-cooling solutions are fast becoming a method of the past: “In my opinion, liquid cooling is the future due to its clear advantages over current air-cooling solutions.”
Simply put, liquids are able to capture more heat due to their superior cooling capacity to be able to run chips and computers with higher performance and power. “Liquid cooling solutions are better suited for the future needs of the industry,” claims Engelhard.

But that’s not the only benefit, “A major reason for adoption of immersion cooling in the industry will also be economic advantages,” explains Engelhard. But what would this look like in detail? Due to the enormous cooling capabilities of liquid cooling solutions the power density of servers in a rack can drastically increase. “This enables companies to run higher computing power in the same space, which leads to significant savings through less data center building costs,” describes Engelhard.
Sustainability: More than a Bonus
In a highly competitive landscape for digital services, global blue-chip companies, as well as small and medium enterprises, all strive for the same optimizations: Increase their technological advancements with improved profitability and sustainability. Engelhard is especially proud of the multiple possibilities immersion cooling offers in regards to the latter. “Liquid cooling solutions like immersion cooling improve sustainability of data center projects, as they allow for simplified fluid-based heat rejection by the utilization of a heat exchange process using ambient air.”
Fluid filled tanks are directly connected to the cooling generation units of the data center, which enables these tanks to reach a suitable cooling temperature. The fluid-based heat transfer effect, which takes place directly at the surface of the chip, increases the amount of heat flow tremendously. Since there is no need to extract heat out of the air, the power utilization effectiveness factor reduces significantly, leading to an overall reduced carbon footprint of the data center.
“Exyte has deep understanding of the thermodynamics of chip and server cooling in data centers,” outlines Engelhard. “In the coming years, we foresee a clear trend towards liquid cooling methods, and eventually, immersion cooling has the biggest potential to be deployed as a bulk solution for data centers.”
